If you use air conditioning services you may have noticed the term “F-Gas”. What is F-Gas and why do air conditioning companies need to be registered?
F-Gas (Fluorinated Gas) is a manmade gas introduced as a replacement to CFC’s which are damaging to the ozone layer. Currently mainly used in industrial processes, they are not ozone-depleting or harmful to the user but if released can remain in the atmosphere and contribute to global warming.
Air conditioning companies are affected by this because of the refrigerant gasses that are used in air conditioning systems.
In order to ensure that these gasses are not negatively impacting the environment, regulations have been enforced by the Environment Agency (EA). The regulations state that any company that handles F-Gas must be able to demonstrate that they employ sufficiently trained staff to carry out work and have procedures in place for the safe handling of F-gasses to minimise emissions into the atmosphere.
There are certification bodies who have been appointed to promote the environmentally responsible use of refrigerants. Flair Solutions take our responsibility for the environment very seriously and have an F-Gas certificate issued by Recom, who work closely with the Environment Agency. You can check our certification status direct on the Refcom website http://www.refcom.org.uk/.
